February 12, 2011 New Orleans ~ Back in September 2009, I launched my triple bottom line brand idea called REpurposingNOLA Piece by Peace. One of the initial pieces we designed utilized salvaged cypress wood discovered at The Preservation Salvage Store. In fact, part of the inspiration for me to launch REpurposingNOLA came from the beautiful cypress remnants used in renovating my warehouse district loft. (I needed a tray to host a renovation-is-finally-over-party, truth be told).
It was always my goal to donate our popular tray design to give back to our community with an educational program introducing the wonderful world of salvaged materials available at The Preservation Salvage Store. On Saturday, February 12, 2011, that goal was accomplished with our kick-off tray-making workshop.
Ten community-minded individuals (pictured / February 12, 2011) made a commitment to "Be Cool; Do Good." at our inaugural two-hour workshop where they created a REpurposingNOLA salvaged tray of their very own with the help of The Preservation Salvage Store's woodworking experts. The wood we used was pine flooring salvaged from an Orleans Parish home, sanded then cut into specific pieces to show off its natural grain. Thanks for supporting local people + the planet!
